CHAZ Donates to Mwembeshi Open Prison
CHAZ recently donated assorted sports equipment worth K250, 000 to Mwembeshi Maximum Prison in Mumbwa. The donation of the equipment is aimed at promoting good health among prisoners. The items donated include 110 football nets, 110 footballs, 55 volleyball nets, 330 chess boards, two table tennis tables, 110 netballs and 110 volleyballs.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Mwembeshi Maximum prison, CHAZ Executive Director Karen Sichinga said in a speech read on her behalf by the Advocacy and PR Manager, Mr. Yoram Siame that the donation will contribute to the well-being of inmates.
She said CHAZ believes that sport is a tool that could be used to help people stay healthy.
Mrs. Sichinga noted that an active lifestyle could be enjoyed through sport.
“We believe health is more than medication and needs to be pursued through active lifestyle such as sporting activities. Through sports people share hope, joy, disappointment and happiness and victory. Even if achieved by one person, sport brings joy to many people. It becomes a shared and acheter viagra uniting emotion. We believe that these sporting equipment will contribute to the creation of a positive mental attitude of the lives of inmates and prison service officers,” Said Mrs Sichinga.
She said CHAZ practices what is written in the Gospel according to St. Luke by visiting the sick, helping the poor and visiting those in prison.
And Commissioner of Prisons Percy Chato commended CHAZ for the support rendered to the Zambia Prisons Service. Mr. Chato said the donation of sport equipment will improve the physical and mental well-being of inmates as well as promote unity.
“The importance of sports cannot be overemphasised as it enhances mental, physical fitness and the promotion of teamwork,” he said.
Lusaka Regional Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner, Christopher Kajimbala pledged to guard the items jealousy as the equipment will help promote good health especially that the prisons were prone to diseases.

After the donation, the innmates had a taste of their new soccer balls in a game of soccer while the Commisioner of Prisons played chess with an inmate.
